Description
X! (the 24th letter of the basic modern Latin alphabet) can mean many things to many people! Romans used it to represent the number 10. In mathematics, X can be an independent variable as well as an indication that items need to be multiplied. We even use X's to show affection as in "XOXO - kisses and hugs". X's can even be used for "the unknown" such as person X or place x. In X!, the single letter replaces the prefix "ex" in a delightful play on words. The show X! fosters a strong visual identity while supporting themes tied together through the creative use of the prefix!

Mvt. 1 & 2: "X-Clamation & X-Celeration" X-Clamation starts with an impactful moment geared to startle or surprise the audience. X-Celeration takes us on an upward journey through the use of a constant increase in speed. Velocity is created through the use of increasingly dense rhythmic material from the beginning to the up-tempo moments by the end of the movement.
Mvt. 3: "X-Haustion" X-Haustion is a contrasting movement with a heaviness related to both physical and mental fatigue. Sounds of a laborious and repetitive low voice line coupled with the dropping of heavy chains creates an atmosphere of endless and relentless work.
Mvt. 4 & 5 & 6: "X-Aggeration & X-Otic & X-Plosion" X-Aggeration creates great contrasts within volumes, scoring, and rhythmic densities. A wide expanse between the various elements of the ensemble creates many opportunities for visual exaggeration as well. X-Otic takes the listener to a place where he/she has never been before. Through the use of a rhythmic feel, the mysterious and uplifting music sets that stage for something excitingly unique. X-Plosion completes the journey through X! by creating opportunities of loud blasts and crashes before setting the stage for the rapid conclusion. |
