Earth: Construction in Four Movements pays homage to the four classical elements as they were perceived by the ancients, conceived with the idea of using different colors to portray each of the four sections. The band that commissioned this show created a framework for a 16-foot tall globe and marched through it during the show, utilizing the set as a major visual focus.

MUSIC SAMPLES

Mvt. 1: Air was written with the intention of using whites, sheers and light pastels to express the notion of nimbleness and weightlessness. Imagine being carried away in a hot air balloon and experiencing a light wind as you float through the crystalline sky, breathing all that is clean and fresh and feeling fully revitalized by the gentle wafting of the unseen currents.

Mvt. 2: Fire explores the ritualistic use of fire by the Aztecs during ceremonies of human sacrifice. Intensely rhythmic and overwhelmingly bombastic, this movement is best expressed by a fiery inferno of reds and oranges.

Mvt. 3: Water creates a sense of relaxation with soothing sounds, as if gentle waves are rippling outwards from a pebble dropped in a pool or stream. Blues and shades of aqua would help enhance this sense of "ahhhhhhhhhh."

Mvt. 4: Land is as regal as a lush European countryside resplendent in rich green grasses, hence shades of deep green would be appropriate here. The musical shades are very much inspired by the "proper" symphonic restraint of music from the Old Country.
